Cape Split Trail Upgrades

Project Background

In 2019, Davis MacIntyre and Associates conducted an archaeological resource impact assessment for the Cape Split trails upgrades in Cape Split Provincial Park.  Cape Split is known as a rich cultural landscape of traditional use and spiritual significance to the Mi'kmaw since time immemorial.

Key Findings

DMA was entrusted to assess and ensure the protection of this cultural landscape prior to the commencement of trail upgrades with the guidance of the local Mi'kmaw. Our surveys and subsequent testing located previously unknown precontact sites. This provided the developer with valuable information, prior to mobilization and ground disturbance, which allowed them to reroute trail alignments to protect these sites and avoid additional archaeological mitigation costs.
